What are the practical benefits of having Danish account infrastructure in place?
For international businesses, a Danish business account enables:- Reliable payroll execution- Correct settlement of VAT and payroll taxes- Registration and use of NemKonto for refunds- Smooth supplier and contractor payments- Cleaner audit and compliance trailsWithout local infrastructure, these processes are technically possible but operationally fragile.
Why do Danish suppliers and vendors often ask for Danish account details (not just an IBAN)?
In Denmark, counterparties commonly work with local account formats/expectations (and for some payment and mandate setups, local conventions). Even when SEPA applies, Danish vendors frequently want the account details that plug cleanly into their payment workflows. For larger procurement teams and recurring supplier runs, local-format compatibility matters more than technical SEPA validity.
What is NemKonto, why does it matter?
NemKonto is Denmark’s mandatory system for linking a business’s CVR/SE number to a nominated bank account for payments from public authorities. This includes VAT refunds and other state payments.Without a correctly registered NemKonto, refunds and reimbursements can be delayed or blocked entirely. For businesses interacting with Danish authorities, having an account that can be registered as NemKonto is a critical operational requirement.
Do I need a Danish business account to operate in Denmark?
f your business has employees, pays Danish taxes, or regularly pays Danish suppliers, a Danish business account is effectively essential. While it is technically possible to operate using a foreign account, Danish authorities, payroll providers, and counterparties expect payments to originate from an account that can be clearly linked to your Danish registration (CVR/SE number). In practice, businesses without local account infrastructure experience delayed payments, misallocated taxes, payroll issues, and ongoing administrative friction. This is why most international groups operating in Denmark establish a Danish account early.
Does holding a native DKK account help satisfy "Economic Substance"?
Yes. For groups using a Danish ApS or A/S as part of an international structure, proving "place of effective management" is critical to avoiding tax residence challenges. Maintaining a local DKK account with a native registration and account number is a core indicator of economic substance. Banq Global provides this essential local footprint, enabling you to anchor your financial activity in Denmark and demonstrate a genuine commercial presence to the Danish authorities, which is vital for claiming tax treaty benefits.
What local payment rails do Danish businesses use?
Denmark uses several “local” mechanisms alongside SEPA:- Straksclearing for real-time (instant) transfers (commonly used for online bank transfers and MobilePay flows).- Betalingsservice as the dominant direct-debit scheme for recurring consumer payments (subscriptions, utilities).- SEPA Credit Transfer for EUR payments (common for EU counterparties).
Can I use a Banq Global account to pay Danish VAT (Moms) and Corporation Tax?
Yes. To settle liabilities with the Danish Tax Agency (Skat), you must use a method that supports domestic DKK clearing. Traditional cross-border SWIFT transfers often lead to rejected payments or misallocated references within Skat’s automated systems. Banq Global provides a dedicated DKK account with a local Reg.nr. (Registration Number) and Kontonr. (Account Number), ensuring your tax payments are correctly identified and processed, helping you avoid the 25% VAT penalties often associated with late or failed filings.
Do non-resident directors need MitID Erhverv to manage a Danish business account?
MitID Erhverv is the mandatory digital identity for all corporate actions in Denmark, from logging into Virk.dk to approving tax filings. While traditional Danish banks often struggle to onboard foreign directors who lack a personal CPR (Civil Registration) number, Banq Global is designed for international structures. We provide the necessary local account infrastructure while navigating the digital ID requirements for you, allowing non-resident directors to maintain full control over their DKK operations without the bottleneck of local identity mandates that typically halt the onboarding process at high-street banks.
What is the benefit of a "NemKonto" for my Danish entity?
In Denmark, every company is legally required to designate a NemKonto (Easy Account)—a single account number used for all payments from public authorities, such as VAT refunds or social security payouts. Without a correctly registered NemKonto, your tax refunds from Skatteverket will be indefinitely delayed. Banq Global provides the dedicated DKK account details needed to register your business in the national account register, ensuring that your state payments are automated and received directly into your business account without reconciliation issues.
How does the Digital Bookkeeping Act affect international companies in Denmark?
The Danish Bookkeeping Act is now in full effect, mandating digital record-keeping for all entities with a turnover exceeding DKK 300,000. For international firms, this means your business account must be capable of exporting data in the SAF-T (Standard Audit File for Tax) format to satisfy the Erhvervsstyrelsen (Danish Business Authority).
